Justin Chambers has broken his silence about being hospitalized for a "sleep disorder" and not a moment too soon -- his first interview since being released from UCLA's psych ward comes on the heels of reports that he's batshit crazy.

The Grey's Anatomy hunk (the only one without an annoying nickname...may we suggest McSleepy?), told People magazine that he voluntarily checked into UCLA's  Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital in January because he had been unable to sleep no more than one hour a week for two months.

"It's an issue that I've had for a while," the 37-year-old father of five told the mag. "It's a biological sleep disorder. Your mind keeps racing, and your body is tired. It wants to go to sleep, but it can't."

Chambers' official explanation comes just hours after Star magazine posted disturbing photos of the actor on their website. The pics, which appear to show Chambers nodding off in the middle of a bar, were reportedly taken at Palm Springs' Village Pub 26 days after he was treated at UCLA.

"Everyone thought Justin was drunk because he kept passing out at his table," an eyewitness says in the accompanying article. "But when I asked the bartender what they'd been serving him, she swore it was only non-alcoholic beer!"

"He was acting as if he was on drugs, like some kind of downers. His eyes were glazed over. He slurred his words and staggered when he tried to walk," the witness adds. "At one point, he was hunched over a table, then abruptly woke up and shouted out of the blue, 'I am a father of five kids! I am a damn good father! Leave me alone!' It was really unsettling."

But the spy claims Chamber's odd behaviour didn't end there. He reportedly slapped money out of a waitress' hand and, "as she picked it up off the floor, he said, 'That's right, bitch, that's where you belong. Pick up the money!'"

Chambers needs to channel this 'tude into his Grey's character for the good of the show. Next to Alex, perhaps Meredith won't seem so annoying.
