As he was delivering a somewhat off-color intro to a new category, British funnyman Ricky Gervais congratulated actress Kate Winslet—who had just won the award for best performance by an actress in a supporting role in a motion picture for The Reader—on her trophy by calling back to her appearance as herself on his show Extras. Gervais said “I told you should do a Holocaust movie” referencing the facetious monologue she gave on the HBO comedy he wrote that said she needed to do a drama set during the Holocaust so she could finally win a major acting award.
