John Hughes's Best Characters
5) Claire Standish, The Breakfast Club (1985)
She may have only appeared in three of them, but it's tough to think of John Hughes movies without Molly Ringwald coming to mind. While the characters she played in Sixteen Candles and Pretty in Pink were pretty much all about wish fulfilment (girl meets hot guy, loses hot guy, wins hot guy back), Claire is particularly memorable because she's not just a stereotypical teen-queen. She overcomes her snobbiness to make a connection with the rest of the Breakfast Clubbers, find love with the school rebel, and even apply her makeup with her cleavage. That's one well-rounded lady.
Best Quip: "I hate it. I hate having to go along with everything my friends say."
Rad Factor: 2 out of 5. She not only matured by the end of the film, but she also had the most '80s-tastic dance moves. And for that, we salute her.
