Most Likely to Win: Helen Mirren, The Queen
Oscar Gold: This win couldn’t be any more in the bag if Queen Elizabeth herself phoned George W. Bush and, by royal decree, commanded that Mirren win. The Queen still has that power, right? Anyway, it doesn’t matter. Mirren already snagged wins at every award’s predictor for the Oscars: she won this year’s best actress Golden Globe and this year’s best actress SAG award. Plus, this isn’t one of those “let’s ugly up for the Oscars” roles that the Academy loves to award. Mirren played the embattled monarch with an inspired amount of stoicism and just a hint of vulnerability that let audiences in on the inner life of one of the most secretive public figures of our time.
