3) Footloose (1984)
School: A high school where the kids don't dance because Jesus -- and John Lithgow -- told them not to.
Star Pupils: Ren (Kevin Bacon) is the new kid in town – a big city boy with a skinny tie and a new-wave haircut. Ariel (Lori Singer) is the town preacher's feisty daughter. Together, they try to get around the town's no-fun-allowed law in time for prom.
Best Routine: While "Footloose" will always make "everybody cut, everybody cut," and "Holding Out For a Hero" never fails to make us want to race tractors, the best routine of the film – and possibly of the entire 1980s – is Ren's warehouse dance to "Never." Flying kicks! An Olympic-style gymnastic dismount! Underage boozing! If punch-dancing is wrong, John Lithgow, I don't want to be right.
