Five Things that Would Have Never Existed without Michael Jackson’s Thriller
In the world of popular music, nothing is bigger than Michael Jackson’s Thriller. Released in November 1982, it the highest selling record of all time and was a mainstay on the Billboard charts, spending 80 consecutive weeks on it – 37 of those at No. 1. Seven out of the LP’s nine tracks became singles, with two (“Billie Jean” and “Beat it”), going to No. 1. With Thriller, Michael Jackson paved his way to glory and, eventually, infamy. Something as culturally ubiquitous as a 100+ million selling album is bound to have a widespread influence on popular culture, and Thriller is no exception. In honour of the late music legend, we look at five things that would never have existed without Thriller.
